Each project topic will be taught at a scheduled class meeting.  The project will be due at the next class meeting.  If the project is not complete at that time, it is the student’s responsibility to e-mail, mail, or bring the project to Patricia Ferguson.

Email Your Assignments:
All assignments must be emailed to me unless otherwise stated.  You may use your home email account or your school ten-nash account. Email the assignment as an attachment.

About your assignment:
--Send an email to me (fergusonp@k12tn.net) explaining your problem.
--
Attend the scheduled training sessions that correspond with the assignment in question.  Scheduled dates are listed above.
       
The training sessions are to help assist you if you are having problems with an assignment.
        Each project topic will be taught at a scheduled class meeting.  The project will be due at the next class meeting.
        If the project is not complete at that time, it is the student's responsibility to e-mail, mail, or bring the project to Patricia Ferguson.
        Students who have the technology skills to complete the projects independently may do so.  However, independent projects must meet  
                        the
same criteria as those taught in class. 
        Students who have technology skills and wish to propose alternative projects should talk with Patricia Ferguson early in the semester. 

ANY STUDENT WHO DECIDES TO NOT COMPLETE THE COURSE MUST EITHER DROP THE COURSE OR WITHDRAW FROM THE UNIVERSITY.  I DO NOT HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO REMOVE A STUDENT FROM THE ROLL. 

ALL STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A GRADE AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER.  STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED ALL ASSIGNMENTS WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF “I”.  IN DECEMBER OF 2004, THE “I”  WILL BECOME AN “F” IF ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOT COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO DR. PHELPS.

PROJECT #1:

Project 1—WebQuests: http://webquest.sdsu.edu/

For project 1 you have a choice of completing 2 of the 4 WebQuest assignments below OR you can complete the Alternative Project.  This assignment is not due until September 18th.  Project #1 assignment will be taught on September 4th.  If you have questions, please send an email to me @ fergusonp@k12tn.net  .

Select 2 from the following OR complete the Alternative Project below:

Access the WebQuest portal @ http://www.webquest.org/ ; select an existing “top” rated WebQuest from the matrix to try with a group of students; write a reflective summary about the effectiveness/usefulness of the Quest for student learning.

Access the WebQuest portal @ http://www.webquest.org/ ; select an existing “top” rated WebQuest from the “new” matrix identify the national standard http://www.mcrel.org and corresponding state standard http://www.state.tn.us/education/ci/cistandards.htm  addressed in the Quest.

Use the rubric handout(found @ http://webquest.sdsu.edu/webquestrubric.html ) to evaluate 3 new WebQuests found @http://www.webquest.org/ .

Adapt an existing WebQuest from the middling matrix of the WebQuest portal using the guidelines outlined @ http://webquest.sdsu.edu/adapting/index.html .

Alternative Project

Use the training materials provided @  http://webquest.sdsu.edu/materials.htm to develop an original WebQuest; identify the national standard and the corresponding standard addressed in the Quest; try the Quest with a group of students; write a reflective summary about the effectiveness/usefulness of the Quest for student learning.

To Complete Project #2 you will:

PART I

Access the netTrekker website using the URL above and the login username and password above.
Create a Shared Folder (by clicking Saved Searches)
Rename the Shared Folder (use your name)
Search the Tennessee State Standards for an appropriate lesson plan(s) according to your grade level and teaching assignment
Save the search
Email the Search results to me
Move your saved search to the Shared Folder
 

PART II

Access the netTrekker website using the URL above and the login username and password above.
Search the “Teacher Tools” for a technology lesson.
Save the search
Email the Search results to me
Move your saved search to the Shared Folder
 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PART I

Follow the steps below to complete the assignment:

From the netTrekker home page:

click state standards in the upper right corner
From the list, Choose the discipline that you teacher (math, social studies, science…)
Click on the grade level that you teach
Click on your content standard, content area, goal or objective that you choose (the names will vary depending on your discipline.)

**Note:  It is possible that you may have to type in a “User Defined Keyword” and click “Submit” to find a variety of lesson plans.  (for example:  if you are searching health for the food pyramid and you “drill down” the Standards and no lesson choice appears.  Type “food pyramid” in the User Defined Keyword box and click Submit. 

Once you find the “Search Results” of your topic, there will be a list of TABS that can narrow your search.  The default tab is “All Results”.  But, you can click on “Lesson Plans”,  “Learning Exercises”, “Learning Games”, “Pictures”,  “Maps and Charts” to narrow the search according to your needs.

Click “SAVE SEARCH” when you find the websites that you want.

At this point you can delete sites that you do not want to save by clicking the box to make a check and clicking “delete” at the bottom of the search.

Before you save your search, click “e-mail to a friend” to the right.
--Enter my email address in the “to” blank (fergusonp@k12tn.net)
--Enter your email address in the “from” blank
--Click SEND

Next, save your search in the shared folder by clicking SAVE
Move your saved search to the shared folder by doing the following:

Click in the box next to your saved search…a check should appear
Click the dropdown arrow next to “Your Saved Searches”.
Click once on the name of your search.
Click the “MOVE” button

(Your search should have moved to the SHARED SEARCH folder)
You can check to see if your search is there by clicking once on SHARED SEARCH folder.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PART II

Share another lesson plan using netTrekker as follows:

With your password, logon to the netTrekker website
On the right margin of the webpage, you will see Secondary:  Famous Person, References, Teacher Tools  AND  Elementary:  Famous Person, References, Teacher Tools.
According to your teaching position (Secondary or Elementary),
Click the corresponding “Teacher Tools” link
Click on the Topic:  Technology in the Classroom
Click on one of the topics under Technology in the Classroom (i.e. Ideas and Strategies, Internet Safety….)
Click the “lesson Plans” tab
Save your Search
Email the search to me by clicking “email to a friend”
and Move it to the Share Folder you created earlier.

 

 

 

PROJECT #3:

Project 3—PowerPoint

Use PowerPoint to create one classroom presentation
(minimum of 12 slides) to be used with students (on electronic presentation system or as transparencies). 

The presentation must include:

  1. A minimum of 12 slides
  2. You can choose the subject, but you must be able to use the presentation with your students or in your classroom.
  3. a title page (Title, your name, date, your school);
  4. fair use disclaimer;
  5. minimum/maximum text guidelines;
  6. accessing, saving, and referencing an internet graphic;
  7. using digital images from scanners, digital cameras, and/or photo services;
  8. selecting templates;
  9. and (if you are using an electronic presentation system) slide transitions.  

Print the completed presentation either as full pages or as notes, or save the presentation to floppy disk(s) or burn to a CD, or email the presentation to me (if the file is very large, zip the file before emailing).  Get the presentation to me by the project deadline.  If you have questions on any of the above, please let me know.  You can email me at:  fergusonp@k12tn.net or call.  You have my number(s).
