Macon County Schools is excited to partner with Social Grounds for a Community Food and Pet Food Drive. As the holidays approach, we recognize that many families face additional challenges, and we want to help support our Macon County community.
Donations may be dropped off at Social Grounds Coffee on the square from now through the end of January. Each donation earns a chance to win a drink of your choice or a gift card.

As of now, Macon County Schools will be at its regular time tomorrow, December 2nd. The latest forecast models predict that snow/freezing rain will be in the area beginning in the early morning hours. No decision will be made on school start time until tomorrow morning. It would be beneficial to make plans tonight in the event that we are one hour late, two hours late, or closed. Please plan ahead, just in case. We are sorry for the timeline, but it cannot be helped.

Macon County Schools receives ADVANCING designation from the Tennessee Department of Education

Under Tennessee’s accountability system, districts are expected to increase achievement levels for all students and demonstrate student growth across all student groups. Districts are assessed on their performance across six critical performance indicators measured through multiple pathways. The indicators include Grade Band Success Rates, rates at which students are Chronically Out of School, performance on the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA), and Graduation rates. District accountability scores are calculated using a weighted average of the district’s scores across all indicators and student groups to determine a district’s designation. The five possible district designations are Exemplary, Advancing, Satisfactory, Marginal, and In Need of Improvement.

We hope this message finds you well! As we approach the TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program) EOC (End-of-Course) exams for MCHS, we would like to emphasize the importance of attendance during this period.
Exam Dates: (Updated Dates)
- December 3 English 1 and English 2
- December 9 Biology and State Dual Credit Psychology
- December 10 English 1, English 2, and State Dual Credit History
- December 11 Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and State Dual Credit Precalculus and Statistics.
These assessments are vital for your child’s educational success, and each day of school leading up to and including the exam days is crucial. We kindly ask that you ensure your child is present at school, arriving on time and ready to do their best.
Attendance is the key to success, not only for daily classroom activities but especially on test days. We appreciate your support in helping your child maintain a consistent school routine, as it plays a significant role in their confidence and performance.

Lafayette Elementary School was on soft lockdown for a brief period today as a precaution due to a non-violent incident in the hallway. After, the school day resumed as normal.
