Greetings,
The Tennessee Department of Education (department) has released its draft application for designation as an Ed‑Flex Partnership State under the Educational Flexibility (Ed‑Flex) Program. The Ed‑Flex Program, authorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), allows approved states to grant waivers of certain federal and state statutory or regulatory requirements in order to reduce administrative burden, support local innovation, and improve student outcomes.
Tennessee’s draft application outlines the state’s plan to provide LEAs with greater flexibility in implementing federal programs, particularly in areas such as Title IV, Part A spending requirements and technology infrastructure limitations, while maintaining rigorous accountability aligned to the state’s ESSA plan. The application also describes the processes the state will use to review LEA waiver requests, monitor implementation, and evaluate the impact of waivers on student performance.
The draft Ed‑Flex application is available for public review here, https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/education/legal/ed-flexapplication_Public%20Comment_TN_3-4-26.pdf, from March 16 to April 16, 2026. During this window, parents, educators, school administrators, and community members are invited to read the application and submit comments via this form, https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=vUUkRyQkj064UN90iOGLShfzzQMvCudDlaUYzJRpdmxUMU9DMzJEQ0g1NVFSNVhUSjZFQkFJNklUMC4u. Public participation is a required and important part of the Ed‑Flex process, and feedback will be submitted as part of Tennessee’s final application to the U.S. Department of Education.

Due to the storms predicted overnight Macon county Schools will be 1 hour late on Monday the 16th. This will allow bus drivers much better visibility to identify high water or fallen trees and branches in the roadway. Early morning drop offs will be available at 7:00 regular time for parents that need it. Breakfast will also be served to drop offs and bus riders alike. We appreciate your understanding of this schedule change. It would also be wise to make additional arrangements in case there is extensive storm damage and the schedule is amended tomorrow morning.
There was a minor issue involving a parent with bus 7 this afternoon resulting in having to call the Macon County Sheriff’s Office
At no time was any student ever in danger.

A possible threat to Red Boiling Springs School was reported to both the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and the school earlier today. While the investigation is still ongoing, it
was determined that the threat was non-viable and the actual threat was months ago. No students or staff are in any danger, and we have identified those responsible, and it
will be handled per policy, and criminal charges are being filed.
