Calvary Baptist Church – located at 6851 Highway 52 East in Lafayette – will once again be
participating in its Christmas backpack program. The church will be giving away backpacks for children ages 2-17 who are in need of one of the backpacks, which contain a variety of essential supplies. Those backpacks will be given away on the morning of Dec. 14, following a light breakfast that will be provided and a Christmas program held at the church. The children and their families are invited to the program. Interested individuals must register by Dec. 7. For more information or to register, call Craig Harris at 615-633-8090.

On Monday, November 11, the Veteran's Day Parade will be held in Lafayette beginning at 11:00. We are going to bus our K-5th grade students from Red Boiling Springs Elementary and Westside Elementary to Lafayette to watch the parade. Fairlane Elementary, Lafayette Elementary, and Central Elementary are on the updated parade route so they will watch it from their schools. The students will then return by bus to school and have a sack lunch waiting for them to have in their classroom. Any parent who does not wish for their student to participate please let the school know and we will keep your child supervised at school.
Students in grades 6-12 are also welcome to watch the parade, but their situation is a little different. Parents are allowed to come and pick up their students from school, or if you are unable to physically come and sign your child out, call and speak to the principal. These students will be expected to return to school upon completion of the parade. If they return to school after the parade, they will not be counted absent. If they do not return to school, they will be counted absent for the classes they have missed. Students will not be allowed to leave without either the parents coming to sign them out or speaking to the principal of the school.
As of now, the weather looks favorable, but if there is a change, we will update if necessary.
The school system feels that Veteran's Day is very important and we want to make it available for as many students as we can. Our country is greatly indebted to these men and women and this day should not be taken advantage of, but rather respected for the celebration of what it is.
